I received an email from 1st Prize Winner Peter Bretan. Here is what he wrote.
Hi, my name is Pete and I’m a Wiggle winner. Here I am standing by the crater on Mount Vesuvius in Italy.
For my day job, I’m a geologist working for a consulting company based in rural Lincolnshire. I was on a business trip in Houston when I received the news. I was teaching a class when I received a text alert to phone the office as soon as possible. I started to think the worse … as one does. Ok class … take a coffee break. I phoned the office and was told that I had won first prize in a Wiggle competition. Yeah right … and today is April 1st (it was actually October). I phoned Jason at Wiggle and sure enough I was a winner … first prize … blimey, this sort of thing never happens to me. Went back into the class and mentioned that it was good news … I had won a competition and had £500 worth of vouchers to spend. Suddenly, I had lots of ‘friends’ who said they would like a new bike!
Winning the competition is going to help me a great deal in my next big adventure. I’ve entered my very first Ironman race, in Zurich Switzerland in July 2009. I’ve been competing in Triathlons for the last 5 years, everything from Sprint to Half Ironman events racing for my team, LincolnTri I know I’m never going to win a race, I typically finish ‘mid table’ in my age group, but it’s great fun racing. Carb Boom gels form an important part my nutrition strategy. I think I have enough gels and energy drinks now to last … oh, may be one or two short races. The vouchers will be put to good use too … a compact chain set and bike bag are top of my wish list although my wife and daughter have already drawn up a very long shopping list of their own! We’ll see who gets to the vouchers first.
