St Antony’s

It was a long flight flight from Brisbane to LA and when I got to LA it was 7am the same day I left so I had to stay awake all day which really hurt but if felt good that I got younger on my flight. The next day I left for St Antony’s which took the whole day and when I arrived in Florida I was so tired but could not sleep because my body clock was all messed up.

In the lead up to the race I felt good during training but was getting no sleep at night which was worrying me but this has happen before when I arrived in Japan a couple of days before a race so I knew I could still race well.
The race night came and I was hoping for a good night sleep but it didn’t happen so I knew 2 Red Bulls were going to have to get me through the race.
Down at the race site the sea was so rough that all the age groupers had there swim cancelled and the elites were the only athletes allowed in the water.

When the gun went it was every man for himself and I found myself with Matt Reed last year’s champion I new if I stayed with him it could only be good. After the swim I came out 4th there were too US elite swimmers off the front, but Andy Potts swim specialist was behind us which was a big shock. Matt went out very hard on the bike and I was riding with Andy with it being my first non drafting race of the year it was a bit of a shock so I just rode at my own pace. Mat Reed got a puncture and Andy took 1 minute out of me, I was also caught by Torenso the world 70.3 champion who put 30 sec into me, so onto the run I new I had to run hard but I couldn’t catch either of them and had to settle for 3rd place but was very happy.

My next race is St Croix 70.3 and I hope with some good rest and sleep I can go better than St Antony’s.
