adidas Crystal Palace Grand Prix Banner

Well we had a great deal of interest for this beauty of a competition. During the month of June 2009 Wiggle teamed up with adidas to offer the chance to win two tickets to the Crystal Palace Grand Prix! Accommodation is included for one night plus a free adidas kit package. Britain’s showpiece athletics event, the Aviva London Grand Prix, takes place at Crystal Palace as the highlight of the summer over two days this weekend.

The winner will be able to cheer on and support current the GB squad including Commonwealth, World and Olympic 400m champion Christine Ohuruogu. Olympic Champion Usain Bolt will also be racing among a star-studded field as the 22-year-old has signed up to run the 100m!

We have now picked a winner for this competition. Lucky winner Joseph Dillon & his Partner will experience a superb British athletics showpiece event.

Here’s what Joesph had to say.

A Bolt from the blue

I bought a pair of Adidas Adizero Pro trainers from Wiggle in June & ran in my first 5k two weeks ago (the Manchester 5km Sizzler at Wythenshawe Park). I was pleasantly surprised by my time of 20’04″ and would highly recommend those trainers – being very light they are ideal for 5k or 10k races. Winning a spot prize for being placed 100th was a bonus. I’m in another 5k this coming Thursday when I hope to break 20 mins.

Anyway, following on from my recent purchase, I received a surprise email from Wiggle informing me that I’ve won a weekend away in London, for two, to watch the Aviva London athletics Grand Prix at Crystal Palace. The prize includes tickets for the Friday & Saturday events, hotel accommodation on Friday night & two pairs of adidas shoes & two sets of running apparel. The missus has been nagging me for a weekend away and a new pair of trainers so this will do the trick quite nicely!

The highlight of the meeting will be seeing the fastest man alive, Usain Bolt, run in the 100m on Friday night. He will be head to head with Asafa Powell which should ensure that it’s a quick race – possibly a new world record will be made.

Saturday’s highlight will be Tirunesh Dibaba (another world record holder & double Olympic champion) running in the women’s 5000m – I’ll see if I can pick up a few tips! Also on Saturday is the most interesting event of the meeting – the pole vault. Lets face it, most athletics events have no real sense of danger, the worst that can happen is a misdirected javelin or dropped shot put. But the pole vault always gives me a feeling that something might go wrong – that’s what makes it so watchable.

I’ll be back next week to let you know how I got on.

Cheers,

Joe
