Take care of your undies and your undies will take care of you! Richard Land our guy in merchandising has been getting down and dirty with Assos Active Wear Cleanser.
You could easily think that Assos are just trying to make a quick buck and get into the Washing Liquid product, and to be honest so did I until I tried some. Assos made the smart decision to include a small bottle of the cleaner in the new range of shorts. The experience is close to the first taste of sugar, nothing will ever taste sweeter, even though honey may be better for you.
The Active Cleanser is designed to work with cycling fabrics, whereas the average brand X detergent has to be able to work on all fabrics. This allows the cleaner to be more gentle as generally the worst substance it has to face is sweat from hours on the bike (okay maybe mud too if you are using Assos on the MTB or Cross bike). Just as you shouldn’t use a fabric softener in your wash switching out to a lighter cleaner seems to make the fabrics perform better and longer. Okay it’s not cheap, but neither is a pair of Assos shorts or jersey so investing in this product should prolong the life of the garment as it will prevent the colour washing out.
Finally the best bit, if you like things like the new car smell you’ll understand what I mean by that ‘box fresh’ smell you only get once you’ve cracked open a box of new shorts. This instantly gives that cleaner than clean smells, and I love it. As I have sensitive skin it has produced no reaction to the cleaner. Finally just like the Chamois crème it works on other companies shorts, jerseys and base layers.

After that article, I am still thinking that Assos wants to make a quick buck and Wiggle too for that matter. There are plenty of cheaper products on the market that are just as good or better or have you done a product comparison?
