Arizona

I’m been living in the Desert in Tucson Arizona for the last 2 and half weeks and its been a great experience. This place was voted number one place in triathlon magazine for training its a great place but I have been to better places. There hasn’t been much to do here apart from train hard, get burnt with 100F heat every day and dodge rattle snakes.

I have been asking myself why I came to train on the moon but I heard it was a place that makes you into a man. I was on a bike ride the other day and watched border control cars stopping illegal Mexicans from coming across the desert into the US I worry sometimes what would happen if I had a mechanical problem as not much goes on out here where I go riding and not many cars pass by.

I also competed a 4000m swim race in Phoenix were its even hotter I was surprised they even had a lake in the desert it was a great experience swimming in between the canyons. I finished second in the swim race by 0.3 in a sprint and guy that beat me was apparently a top class US pool swimmer but he swam off course so many times that it came down to a sprint between me and him, I would have got him but he slammed me into the turn buoy and lost a bit of ground.

TJ my training partner was 3rd just a couple of seconds behind me, he realized after the race he might starting working on his sighting and open water swimming because he smashes me in the pool and found it tough to stay on course in the race. So for all you pool swimmers out there make sure you get some open water practice in before you race again next year. I am now in LA getting ready for this weekend’s non-drafting race and looking forward to it.
