With two back to back wins, form and confidence building, I was hoping that I would be able to make this week another, with it being the Welsh Championships held in Crickhowel. Turning up at the venue it was obvious it was going to be a muddy hard race which would be perfect setting for the Welsh Champs.
In recent races I’ve sat in off the start and allowed others to set the pace for the first lap, but this week I wanted to take the front from the gun to allow myself to pick the best lines on the technical course. However, from the start Ben Roach set a quick pace, leaving me to work hard to keep in touch.

By the end of the first lap I managed to get in front, start picking my lines and gaining time. Going on the way the race went a good few weeks ago at Mallory Park with loads of mechanicals caused by the mud, it was crucial for me to gain as much time as I could (if I could) to give myself some leeway for mechanicals. From the end of the first lap I Managed to slowly increase my lead through the muddy conditions often changing bikes, and by the end of the race I was pleased to win my second Welsh Champs jersey of 2009.

The Welsh Champs is always a race I want to win and will look forward to wearing my white Wiggle Welsh Champs kit in next weeks National Trophy in Bradford, where I hope to get a good result against an international field.
