Its Cold, its wet and I’m loving it !

Not exactly true all the time… I do like to snuggle up in the warm too, but after my recent Dubai trip to the World Champs the temperature certainly seems to have taken a dive! As with most Athletes I have been finding it difficult to keep training on the roads so I’m back to my rollers and my Turbo at home and the bikes down the gym. I have managed to get out on the wonderful Focus Raven Pro that I have on loan though – it’s really is a ‘Pro’ bike: I’ve certainly never ridden anything quite such high spec… I really appreciated the high spec saddle when it hit me on the back of the head last week ! – Brakes are excellent too did I mention?  No, but seriously its been great out in the woods in the slush – ideal for the weather.

I  have been laid low the last couple of weeks: first with a horrendous cold and then with a bout of food poisoning. The latter happened at a training camp up in Gloucester and my dad had to come up and get me late in the evening, so I wasn’t too popular! I was surprised how much of an effect it had on me  though – I couldn’t swim at all and my energy was just totally gone: it took me a week to recover, and I had to eventually decide just to stop training for a few days – something I found very hard to do.

In the mean time I picked up a Trophy of a different type: I had to return to my old school to pick up my GCSE Certificates and I was awarded a Trophy for ‘best Overall application’: I guess that means I still walked away with a decent set of qualifications, besides all my sporting success! Well deserved – if a little unexpected – if I do say so myself !

After that I was back with a vengeance this week, finishing second in the County cross-country. My Club (Poole AC) was hosting the competition and trying out a new race venue too. It was nice to be closer to home but a bit weird to run past your parents officiating on the course. Just as well the ground had started to thaw or we could have had a few problems with the sharp hills and level changes on the course. Next years will be even better I’m sure!

Well that’s about it for the moment: training is winding down for the Christmas break – I have one training camp (with Christmas Dinner) this weekend: assuming the weather holds and then my first 10K competition on Boxing Day: so still things to look forward too! I hope everyone has got their Christmas Orders in to Wiggle in Time ! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for 2011!
