No Training Yet Still Busy.

Following on from my last blog where after the Welsh Cross Champs race I felt better than what I did before I started, well by the following day I had set into a full cold/chest infection (again) and ended up having the week off the bike. Fortunately for me I had things to keep me busy like heading to a local primary school to give a cycle safety talk to the children ready for if they have new bikes for Christmas. On the Friday (10th Dec) I headed (with team mate Ben Simmons) down to Wiggle HQ where I picked up my 2011 mtb race bike (Focus Raven 1.0) which this year is finished in a gorgeous gold, which I’m hoping will be a sign of what colour medals I’m going to win this coming season.

After a few hours of raiding the warehouse and generally disturbing the piece for most of the Wiggle staff, we headed to the Royal Maritime Hotel the venue for our Wiggle Christmas Bash. After a great night partying, Saturday morning we headed home where I was keen to do a little fitness test on the turbo to see if I would be well enough to race the following day in the National Trophy as in the morning my cold was feeling a lot better.

My short turbo session confirmed that I wasn’t well enough to be racing and the following day I ended up missing yet again another round. I’m starting to get a bit frustrated with the National Trophy as I feel like I’ve got the legs to get some decent results against the top boys, but I’ve been cursed by colds, preventing me from racing them. Hopefully I will be rid of illness and healthy for the National Cross Champs on the 9th Jan where one great race could change my whole outlook on this years national cross season.. On the Monday (13th Dec) I started training again, but I struggled more than usual to get back into the swing and by Tuesday I felt pretty unhappy with how everything was going.

That afternoon I put my feet up on the sofa and fell asleep for over three hours, and still felt tired when I woke up, so I scrapped my second session for the day and came to the conclusion that I came back to training too soon and needed a couple more days off to make sure that I’m fully recovered. On the Thursday (day off training) I revisited the local Primary school to give out some prizes for the cycle safety helmet design competition which I gave them for a chance to win some Wiggle bottles and Wiggle stickers, so the competition was hot…kids love stickers! Friday ended up being another day off training as I still felt quite weak and had a slight temperature, but until I feel good enough to be training hard, then I will continue to rest up.
