Help develop the trails at Queen Elizabeth’s Country Park
For any of you who live in the South of England, you may be familiar with Queen Elizabeth Country Park Nr Petersfield, on the A3. This is a national country park which has long neen known for good mountain bike trails as near to a proper trail centre as the central South Coast can call their own. It’s a popular destination for families, walkers, leisure cyclists and mountain bikers alike. The steep hills offer challenging climbs, descents and singletrack to satrisfy most cyclists. The lemon drizzle cake in the park centre is delicious!
If you’re like me, you may have ridden QE Country Park many times over the years, possibly not given much back and maybe wishing there were more trails or at least, making the current XC loop a longer one.
Well you’ll be pleased to hear there are a group of volunteers led by @eldiablobrewery who have express permission by the park to build and improve the mountain biking there. So far, a few hardened volunteers have put in many weekends’ of their time to extend the trail by around 1.5km. If you’ve ridden there recently, you’d have seen the changes made so far. With more and more volunteers arriving each time, real progress is being made. By next summer, the group and park hope to have extended the trail by a further 1.5km and added more sections of singletrack, to remove as much fireroad riding as possible for those who want it.
There’s never been a better time to volunteer your time and give a few hours back to the park that has been a popular destination for local cyclists. If you’ve never ridden there before, it’s well worth a look. @eldiablobrewery is looking for more volunteers for the next trail building weekend on the 28th & 29th January & the 25th & 26th February starting from around 10am. Help for the whole weekend or just a few hours, every person and hour helps a great deal.
