2012 is going to be the year of the Dragon – with unrivalled routes and a first-class venue, Wiggle Dragon Ride 2012 will reign supreme in entrants’ calendars

Wiggle Dragon Ride 2012 will captivate challenge-hungry cyclists. Known for being one of the toughest but most rewarding events, riders will be revelling in the anticipation of tackling more climbs than ever before. Participants will be ready to push themselves to the limit and earn a real hit of cycling glory on their selected route – it will be a real test of endurance.

2012 routes bypass the coastal sections of 2011, instead focusing on the dramatic relief of inland South Wales. The major climbs of the Medio Fondo Ride are the Cimla, Rhigos and Bwlch climbs. For the Gran Fondo Route, there’s a welcome return of a feature from the 2007 event – the “Hill with No Name”. In addition, Grand Fondo entrants will take-on the esteemed Black Mountain. The Corto Route is much more accessible for riders of all levels and encircles Margam Mountain.

Due to the sheer scale and magnitude of the event, Wiggle Dragon Ride 2012 has been granted 15 miles of road closures along a section of the Brecon Beacons to encourage safe riding. Event Director, Lou Lusardi, predicts that the 2012 event is going to surpass previous years, in terms of rider satisfaction and sense of accomplishment:

‘Now part of the UK round of the UCI Golden Bike World Series, Wiggle Dragon Ride is gaining notoriety as the premier UK sportive event. It’s a noted accomplishment in cycling circles for a rider to finish the event. Entrants will find that the changes for 2012 make the finish even more gratifying. Wiggle Dragon Ride 2012 is a product of both organisers’ ideas and feedback from riders across previous years. As a result, two key improvements will be car parking and the start procedure. Car parking will be conveniently situated within the deer park – only a few hundred metres from the start/finish area. Conscious that riders will want to get their teeth into the event as soon as possible, the spacious eastern area of the park will accommodate a more expansive start facility to enable more riders to set-off on their challenge, at any one time.

The 2012 event also offers plenty of activities to keep accompanying friends and family members occupied. There are several attractions on-site for family members attending the ride such as the “Go Ape” zip wire, adventure playground, fantasy land and mountain bike hire.
