After years of playing rugby in the UK I applied my trade in NZ and ended up in a bad accident playing rugby. After much rehab and reaccessing my goals I was keen to get some fitness back. Although in my mid twenties I took up cycling and after less than a year at the sport I took part in and finished my first UCI2.2 race which I was stoked to do. The cycling bug took hold and was totally hooked.
From there I got involved in more bike races in both NZ and Europe but I also wanted to help with running of local cycle tours for youngsters. Now being that bit older I have been given another big challenge of training for Challenge Wanaka with less than a year to learn how to swim and improve my run. Being competitive in nature there is no way that I am doing this just to finish. Combined with this I am still keen to do some top cycle races as well.
I always value those that help and would love to return that help to those that help or support me in whatever way I can. If I can help to motivate or inspire others to give these challenges a go then it has to be a big win for sport.
Hi Simon, thanks for sharing your story – if you would like to apply please head over to our facebook page (link is in the post above) and enter the contest through the app…
