Last weekend was my first race of the year and my first race as a second year Youth. It was the third round of the ‘Mr Bling Winter Series’, a one day event at PORC. For the first few runs of the practice session I did not feel as if I was riding well. It was frustrating but I just had to try and ignore it and concentrate on getting up to speed.
Here is a GoPro helmet cam run I took early on in practice:
In my first race run I made a mistake at the beginning of the first section. (20 seconds into the video, where I can not pedal until just before the next right hander). I lost some time and on such a short track to do well you have to have a mistake free run. I was in second place. On the second run I improved my time but still held second place. I still did not feel as if I had had a really good run. At the Mr Bling races they have three race runs. On the third run I did feel like I had had a good run…. but my time did not improve! It goes to show that just because you feel like your on pretty fast run does not always mean that you are. I held my second position to the end of the day. It felt like a strong way to start the year.
Stay tuned I am getting a new bike soon!
