Congratulations to Niels Albert, the 2012 Cyclocross World Champion!

The Belgian took his second rainbow jersey on home soil last weekend with a solid performance that saw the top seven places filled by his fellow countrymen in front of 60,000 fans!  The favourite to win – 2011 World Champion Czech rider Zdenek Stybar could do little to stop the momentum of such a strong team riding together. Once the competition was headed off and Albert allowed to gain some distance off the front of the group the real race was for second place with Pauwels & Nys attacking each other for three laps. Their efforts saw them exhausted and swallowed up by the rest of their team. Rob Peeters – the lowest ranked of the Belgium team saw his opportunity and left the pack behind to clinch second place.

Lots of changes in teams and equipment meant that many riders were on unfamiliar equipment this season, whilst Stybar was riding his pink Specialized (A nod to the companies first bike) Niels Albert gave Colnago their first CX win in 4 year on their range topping CX Prestige. The bike was equipped with Shimano Di2 & C35 Wheelset, XTR pedals, Pro Vibe carbon handlebars, stem & Seatpost and TRP brakes with Swissstop pads.
