Firstly I’d like to wish everyone a happy new year!

Another year is upon us and things for me are looking as hectic as ever!

After indulging over the Christmas period January has been a month of diet and exercise for me and so far the results have been great, losing a stone in weight!

Being a bit of a fairy I decided that cold weather cycling just wasn’t for me so decided to go for a turbo trainer. After a quick chat with Wiggle they offered a recommendation and the next day the CycleOps classic mag turbo trainer was with me! Like an excited kid at Christmas I got it all assembled in about 20 seconds flat and jumped straight on it. It took a bit of getting used to at first but I must say I quite enjoy the fact that when it’s chucking it down with rain (or snow as it has been these last few days!!) I can jump on the bike and have a good ride without getting soaked to the bone or freezing cold!

I’ve racked up a lot of miles so far this year and feel much better for it. The 3 months leading up to the series start (1st April) are vital for me to get into the right physical condition for my racing. Race cars are extremely physical to drive. You need to have great stamina and be able to work in extremely high temperatures. In the summer we see peaks of 50 degrees inside the cars and this can really take its toll if you’re not fit enough. Bike riding is the perfect form of exercise to help me get to the stamina and fitness levels that I need to win.

Nutrition is going to be something that I’m focusing on a lot more this year and I’m pleased that Wiggle will be helping me out on this side of things with advice and product. It should have a very positive influence and hopefully give me the ability to perform at my best for longer, something that in endurance racing is vital.

I can’t wait to get the season under way now, I’ve got a great feeling about it and feel really revved up for it! I will keep putting the hours in on the Verenti and making sure my nutrition is right (no more McDonalds!!) so that come April 1st I’ll be a lean mean race winning machine!
